Believe it or not folks, there’s a “Let Women Speak” event taking place in Dublin today.
Let that sink in to your psyche.
In a bizarre twist, there’s a counter protest to this event. Things may well get ugly.
Momentum has been fomenting for months, culminating with the Chair of Women’s Aid Ailbhe Smyth calling for women’s voices to be shut down. Smyth posted an incredulous item in support of silencing women whom she refers to as “Terfs.”
Smyth needs to resign her position. A functioning media would have dispatched this hypocrite to the disgrace chambers immediately but unfortunately, official media is – once again – strangely silent.
And so, later today, a pack of attack dogs will take to the streets to scream vile abuse at those that don’t share their views. Ordinary onlookers oblivious to this agenda will be shocked by the actions of the baying mob, their filthy language, foul demeanour, abusive name calling and threats of violence against women.
Today I’m urging the general public, those passing-by, to look into the faces of these NGO and political protesters and consider what you see.
I see Ugly.
I see grimacing, spitting, venomous hatred – the kind that would see what these people call ‘terfs’ burned at the stake for not wanting to share their private spaces with men.
Over here in the west of Ireland, nobody uses this word ‘terf’ in normal parlance. That’s reflective of reality, because in no civilised society would we punch an old lady because she wants to pee in peaceful privacy. That would be absurd.
And yet, there will be people marching the streets of Dublin today, seeking to intimidate, shut down and silence women that wish to commit that greatest of modern crimes – speaking in defence of civil rights.
It sounds ridiculous, because it is.
Over here in the west of Ireland, where we burn turf, not ‘terfs’ this issue has already been defeated. At the Cliffs of Moher no less, that powerful terrain where the wild western winds circulate around cute little families of puffins.
It wasn’t Ailbhe Smyth nor any of her morally corrupt cronies – the kind of people who spat at pro-life people marching in Dublin back in 2018 – that played any role in this defeat. Nor was it Posie Parker, or any of the courageous women taking a stand in Dublin today.
No dear reader it was none of these.
It was that much valued commodity, the tourist, more accurately visitors to the Cliffs of Moher, that put paid to the imposition of gender politics.
Quite simply, the stinking toilet set-up at the Cliffs caused so many complaints from confused customers, that the entire notion of a gender neutral lavatory area was simply flushed away.
Likely these same visitors were not impressed by Clare County Council’s unusual methods of car-park charging, which puts a price on the head of each individual passenger, as oppose to the vehicle. For example if there are five people in a car, each individual will pay e12 for the privilege of crossing the road to look out over Cliffs.
That’s €60 to park the car, because access to the Cliffs is a public right of way.
Confused visitors would then make their way to use the facilities, to find a bathroom shared by both sexes. Perhaps this was the final straw, judging by some of the complaints gathered under the Freedom of Information Act by Co Clare based freelance journalist Gordon Deegan.
Here’s the article text:
The records reveal last October 2 “at least a dozen complaints throughout the day regarding the smell in the unisex toilets”.
Another person complained on September 7 “about the smell of the toilets and the use of a unisex toilet”.
The visitor said that the “toilets let the site down and we are leaving ourselves open to funny business in the cubicles”.
On November 16, the complaints log records that a gentleman came to the front desk “very agitated” about the unisex toilets.
The complaint reads that “he said he had an upset nine-year-old child because of it. He was assured that we are looking at upgrading the facilities”.
On July 23, a visitor complained about the smell in the toilets and the lack of soap and toilet paper.
Another person said that the use of unisex toilets “are unacceptable and should be separate male and female”.
The unisex toilets have now reached the end of their life, with Clare County Council last week announcing the complete refurbishment of all toilet facilities within the Cliffs of Moher Visitor Centre at a cost of €208,244.
The improvements include a full refit of the toilets on the ground floor and first floor, while the unisex model is to revert to separate male and female facilities.
And so it was proven that the concept is commercially unviable.
Thanks in no small part, to our Irish ancestors, who left and returned again to visit the homeland. To arrive at the Cliffs, they drove past bogs where turf is still cut and turned and footed and stacked and taken home for use as winter fuel. And they smelled it and saw its smoke emanating from the chimneys in the towns and villages they passed through in order to reach the western shores of Ireland. And they had their say.
For the sum of €208,244 the gender neutral toilets at the Cliffs were to be pulled down and replaced with toilets that cater for males and females separately.
The only other way to impose the idea that men can become women or vice versa is through government intervention. That’s what you will see on the streets of Dublin today, protesting women’s right to free speech.
Meanwhile over here in the west of Ireland, we burn turf. Not 'terfs.’
And that’s how things will continue.
*Grateful to those that support my work. Option to “Buy me a Coffee” here
I’m on the bus on my way in. I debated it for several days. Ugly is right. But if I don’t support this then I’ll have my unborn granddaughters to answer to. It’s that important.
Nice piece. Glad I don't live in Dublin anymore. Sad to see LGB community activists using the same tactics against those who peacefully disagree with them as were used against LGBs in days gone by. Silence them and put them in the closet. Wrong then, wrong now.
