Roy Butler’s decision to take a Covid 19 vaccine was based on travel, access to his gym and social life, his family said.
The young footballer was at the peak of his health, training multiple times a week with his club and coaching younger players in his community.
“Roy was a fit, athletic, healthy, passionate person who loved helping people. He was a coach as well as a player. I used to call him ‘the finished product,’ because he was the full package.
“He was a gentleman, he had it all,” Roy’s brother Aaron Butler said.
The Butler family have been left devastated by Roy’s tragic and untimely loss.
“He definitely didn’t think he needed any vaccine for flu or covid or anything,” Aaron said.
“He had a big group of friends and they all felt the same way, they had to take it in order to get into the gym, the pub and to travel. The gym was a big thing for Roy, he had always looked after himself, he never even drank coffee.”
“There was no way he needed that vaccine,” Aaron said.
Roy, who had plans to travel to Dubai, felt unwell immediately after receiving the one shot Janssen injection at a vaccination centre on August 12 2021.
He complained of headaches, fever, grogginess and pain in his jaw in the days following the procedure.
On Sunday August 15, Roy went to work a night shift at the contact lens manufacturing plant Bausch and Lomb. After he finished work, he drove home and slept before going to the gym but was unable to carry out any physical activities and returned home early.
At home, he complained of feeling extremes of hot and cold and went upstairs to his bedroom where his condition deteriorated rapidly.
He began to suffer seizures, vomiting and convulsions. His family contacted emergency services and Roy was taken by ambulance to Waterford General Hospital. He was placed in an induced coma and transferred to Cork University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead the following day, August 17 2021.
He had suffered a catastrophic bleed to the brain.
The Cork City Coroner Philip Comyn is preparing documents ahead of an inquest into Roy’s death, due to take place in 2023.
A company spokesperson for Janssen confirmed it would supply information sought by the coroner as a matter of urgency following a media request from this Substack.
The information requested has not yet been supplied to the coroner’s office.
“We confirm we have received a notification from the Coroner’s office seeking information. We will cooperate fully with the Coroner’s office and are currently working through the request. We will respond to the Coroner as soon as possible,” a spokesperson for Janssen said in a statement issued on Wednesday October 19.

In its patient safety leaflet, Janssen outlined the risk of blood clots associated with its one shot Covid 19 vaccine as 1 in 10,000.
In an article published in the Irish Examiner on August 21 2021, the HSE confirmed that use of Janssen and AstraZeneca vaccines would ‘soon cease.’
“The HSE will soon stop using this vaccine following extra deliveries of the Pfizer vaccine, which is the preferred option for younger people.”
The article described pharmacists as ‘horrified’ that Janssen vaccines were ‘going to waste.’
It stated that pharmacists working at some of the 42 mass vaccination centres countrywide had made repeated requests to distribute the vaccines to community pharmacies.
The article was based on a letter signed by 15 pharmacists protesting the ‘shocking waste’ of ‘valuable vaccines.’
"It is very disheartening now that the national policy is to simply stop using some Covid-19 vaccines and waste them," the pharmacists were quoted as saying.
The HSE updated safety information for side effects linked to Covid 19 vaccines on its website on March 24 2022.
These changes were documented in an article published by Gript.ie linked here.
The webpage lists a number of side effects for the Janssen Covid 19 vaccine.
The list includes 'very unusual blood clots' as a rare but possibly deadly side effect.
‘Very rare side effects’ include ‘very unusual blood clots with low platelets’ and Guillain-Barré syndrome (GBS) that may affect up to 1 in 10,000 people, according to the HSE.
'Rare' side effects of the Janssen injection affecting one in 1,000 people include ‘blood clots in the deep veins – such as deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary embolisms,’ according to the HSE.
"Very rarely, one in 300,000 people may develop very unusual blood clots with low platelets. One in 10 of these people may die. This risk of this very rare condition is higher in young people," the HSE states on its website.

This article makes me so sad and angry at the same time, seeing his text message that he didn’t want it just reminds me of the disgusting coercion used against young people here in Ireland. When will those responsible be held accountable? I hope the families of all those who have died from covid vaccines come together and fight. Never forget what they did. 😢
A tragic case.
It's difficult to know whether he was the victim of a Russian Roulette type situation where he was given what turned out to be a lethal dose while the others got a placebo, or everyone got the same thing but he alone among his friends was susceptible to these effects.
My own research convinced me that Jenner's "discovery" has no medical value whatsoever and should be shunned for that reason alone. However any intrusive intervention like this carries a serious risk anyway and that is another black mark against it.
